To make the best possible cold pressed juices and nut milks we start with the highest quality ingredients available.
Firstly, The Healthy Juice Company is Soil Association certified. We only use organic ingredients to ensure that they have the highest nutrient profile whilst avoiding the nasty chemicals used in the growth and storage of a lot of conventional fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and grasses.
As well as avoiding chemicals, being certified organic also means that our ingredients are GMO (genetically modified organisms) free.
Of course we don’t just use any ingredients in our cold pressed juices. We carefully select and combine our fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds and superfoods for their cleansing, regenerative and restorative properties focussing on 2 fundamental processes in the body first and foremost: detoxification and digestion.
There are no artificial additives in our cold pressed juices. This means no preservatives. No emulsifiers or stabilisers. No colourings or flavourings.
Because we don’t preserve our products in any way, our juices are vibrantly fresh tasting and recurring feedback is that every ingredient can be tasted in each juice.
Our cold pressed juices are all low fructose (the natural sugar found in fruit) as we keep the fruit content low whilst the vegetable content is high. There is no added sugar. Our nut milks contain a small quantity of dates for their minerals rather than sweetness.
Our ingredients are all plant based, raw and vegan. We never include ingredients which contain dairy or gluten.
We include specially selected ingredients which are particularly beneficial and here are just a few of their wonderful qualities:
- Stimulates the regeneration of liver cells
- Protects the liver from toxins
- Increases liver function
- Is one of the best sources of chlorophyll
- Oxygenates cells
- contains 92 of the 102 trace elements found in plants
- Contains all of the amino acids required by the human body
- Neutralises toxins
- has been found to act upon yeast, harmful bacteria and viruses in the gut
- as a natural fat, it assists the absorption of curcumin in turmeric
- Helps to prevent muscle cramping
- Balances the PH
- Contains over 84 minerals and trace elements
The nuts in our nut milks have been activated, meaning that they have been soaked for a number of hours before transforming them into our dairy free milks. Soaking reduces their phytic acid content. Nuts naturally contain phytic acid which can impair the absorption of zinc, iron and calcium provided by ingredients consumed at the time, including those contained by the nuts themselves. By soaking nuts and decreasing the phytic acid content, we increase the nutritional value of the nuts which in turn raising the nutrient profile of our nut milks. Phytic acid is not dangerous in any way and offers some of its own health benefits too.
Whilst we use citrus fruit for its vitamin C content and its alkalising and cleansing qualities, we keep the level of citrus low enough to avoid causing stomach irritation and excess mucus production. We never use grapefruit as there is evidence to suggest that it can interact with many medications.
Our ingredients are alkaline forming which means once consumed, they generate an alkaline environment inside your body.
The acid/alkaline scale is measured in PH on a scale from 1 – 14 with 1 being the most acidic, 14 being the most alkaline and 7 being neutral. Human blood has a default setting of 7.3 – 7.4 and the human body always strives to maintain an alkaline state but what we eat and drink affects the balance, one way or the other.
If your body becomes too acidic, this is known as acidosis. The body then borrows minerals from bones and vital organs, particularly calcium, sodium, magnesium and potassium which neutralise the acid and remove it from the body (via sweat, urine and exhaled breath) to get the body back in balance.
Refined carbohydrates, alcohol, coffee, red meat and sugar are all examples of acid forming foods. A diet high in acid forming foods results in acid deposits being stored which then affect health in a negative way.
Acid forming foods are inflammatory whereas alkaline forming foods are anti-inflammatory. Most illnesses and diseases thrive in an acidic environment
Some ingredients which we may term as acidic such as lemons and limes actually have an alkaline effect on the body once consumed.
