New Year's Resolutions - Looking after your body

Many of us make a New Year’s resolution to take better care of ourselves. This may include improving our diet, doing more exercise or simply getting more sleep. A great way to start your healthy New Year is with a juice cleanse detox. A juice cleanse is a great way to clean your system out and get ready for your new healthy lifestyle. We like to think of it as a way to hit your body’s reset button.

What does a juice cleanse do?

When you do a juice cleanse you swap your normal food and drink for a selection of cold pressed juices for a set period of time, usually 1, 3 or 5 days. Although the cleanse itself is normally done for a relatively short period of time, we recommend that it is preceded by a period of abstaining from alcohol and cutting back on sugary and processed foods. This means that your body gets eased into the cleanse, rather than shocked in, but also gives you a longer period with less toxins going into your body.

Once the cleanse starts the switch from solid food to clean healthy cold pressed juices helps to push remaining toxins out of the body while giving your digestive system a rest. Because we don’t pasteurise our cold pressed juices they are packed with healthy live nutrients which your body craves. People who do juice cleanses report feeling benefits including:

  • Increased energy
  • Deeper and more consistent sleep
  • Clear sparkling eyes
  • Naturally glowing skin
  • Improved digestion and alleviation of bloating
  • Strengthened immune system and therefore less colds and flu

One of the concepts behind juice cleanses is that as well as detoxing your body, the move to cold pressed juices encourages regeneration and healing. This is because the energy your body is normally using to digest food can be redirected.

Improving your mind and body

As well as being a good way to give your body a kick start for the New Year a cleanse is a good chance for a mental refresh. Many people who do a juice cleanse report feelings of mental clarity and having more focus and motivation when they have finished. In part this is because completing a juice cleanse takes willpower and there is a sense of satisfaction from seeing it through.

Cleanses also help with mental clarity as they are a form of fasting. Fasting is commonly used by many religions to help people focus. In religious contexts fasting may be used to focus on a particular problem or to remember sacrifices that others have made. As part of a juice cleanse we recommend that people start by making a list of reasons why they want to detox and what improvements they want to make. For the New Year this can be a slightly more general list covering not just why you want to do a cleanse but also what your motivation is for looking after your body during the whole year. As you do your New Year detox you can then focus back on these reasons for motivation and concentration what else you can do to achieve your goals through the year.

Being Kind to Your Body

It can be tempting to jump into a dramatic detox in January. We strongly recommend that people don’t do this. If it is your first time doing a juice cleanse then we recommend that you start with a 1 day cleanse on your first go. This will be less of a shock to your system and you are far more likely to complete it, giving you more of a sense of satisfaction at the end. Whether it is your first time doing a juice cleanse detox, or whether you are an old hand, we also recommend that you ease into it. For most people this will mean planning a period of healthy eating running up to the start of your cleanse and for the days afterwards. Again this will ease your body into the cleanse, making it more enjoyable and reducing the shock to your system.
